[Class of '85 - Dan - Sydney (11/1/02] by Caro (with help from Cris) ![]() Some Background information on Class of '85: From the northern beaches of Sydney Australia, Class of 85, previously known as 10-Fold, kick started their musical lives by winning the Channel V Leg Up competition (a music channel competition for unsigned bands). After several line-up changes, this band is making quite the name for themselves, playing with many reputable local and international bands. Sh!ft Magazine: So, what's your name and position in the band? Dan: My name's Daniel. SM: …and what do you do? Dan: I do lots of things! SM: Well what do you do in Class of 85 then? Dan: I play guitar and I sing…or try to sing…and try to play guitar… SM: How you start your band, how did it all start…? Dan: Simon is cousins with Matt the drummer, so they knew each other. We met Pete at a show one time when we played with Unwritten Law, and I used to go to school with Simon. SM: How important, nowadays, do u think writing your own songs is? Dan: I think its important because, well, a lot of the popstars lose a bit of respect I reckon, and just cause they're good looking and …photo…photo…whats that word? Photogenic? Yeah. And you get more respect, and its more fun, because its something to be proud of, and you get to write songs about personal stuff and things that have happened to you. SM: What happened to (your previous band) 10-Fold? Dan: Well Simon used to be Lead Guitar and I used to be Guitar and Sing, and Tom used to be our Bassist but things weren't really working out for Tom so he left. And then it was just a three piece; me, Simon and Matt, and then we found Pete, and we Simon went to bass because Pete was such a good guitarist… and we just wanted to change our name, just to start over again, a new beginning. And there were some 10-Fold bands around already, like there's a band in the state who just toured with Incubus, who have international rights to the name… SM: Who are some bands you're toured with and who were your favourites? Dan: Mad Caddies, Unwritten Law, Frenzal Rhomb, One Dollar Short, Jebediah, For Amusement Only, Seraph's Coal, Antiskeptik…. Unwritten Law would have to be my favourite, not just because they're one of my favourite bands, but just because I loved playing that show. SM: Finish this sentence: "The way to my heart is through my_________." Dan: Does it have to say my? Ok the way to my heart is through… giving me lots of cuddles and kisses… *(at this point, Dan opens the car door and yells out some stuff to 2 people walking by… "HEY I KNOW YOU! YOU'RE THAT GIRL FROM SIMPLE PLAN… AND YOU LIVE LIKE OUT WEST SOMEWHERE… AND ONE OF YOU LIKES SIMON FRENCH!!……..yeah sorry back to it")* SM:In your opinion, who is the hottest female in the media nowadays? or male...your choice… Dan: Umm…ahh…umm…that Avril Lavigne chick. Not because, nah yeah I just love her, I've got a crush on her. SM: Do you rate her music at all? Dan: Nah its good….a lot of people don't cause she's a chick and its pop music…but nah…ohhh do you know who I reckon is reeeally hot? *thinks for her name* Natalie Imbruglia… yeah I reckon she's soo gorgeous. SM: What is the most embarrassing CD in your collection? Dan: Probably my Hanson CD because when they first came out I thought they were girls and I had a crush on one of them. SM: Where's your favourite place to go? Dan: The church SM: Where's your favourite place to go on the internet? Dan: Ummmmm OHH yeah well we have a website… I don't go to it much… I heard its alright… its www.classofeightyfive.com and it'll be up in the next week or so… and its actually class of e-I-g-h-t-y-f-I-v-e not 85 in numbers..and make sure that when u say classofeightyfive make sure u make it all one word… (in the meantime check our http://groups.msn.com/ClassofEightyFive and also http://www.10-fold.org) SM: What's in your pockets right now? Dan: Umm…*searches pockets* umm puts two guitar picks in his pockets* … guitar picks! SM: Finally, what's next on the Co85 agenda? Dan: To play heaps of shows throughout the summer and we're going to Brisbane next year tostay up there and play some shows in the holidays… and we're in the process of recording an EP which should be out by the end of the year.
